Campus IT
Information Technology Services provide central
data communication and networking services to the Ashesi community. Our mission
is to ensure that faculty, staff, and students can take maximum advantage of the
Ashesi University network and make use of the latest networking technologies in
furthering the University's leadership training and instructional goals.
Ashesi currently has four (4) computer labs used by students for various
academic purposes. Except for one (1) of the labs; which doubles as a computer
workshop and a test bed for the various server operating system technologies,
the rest are used for research and student work.
Ashesi goes nComputing
All the computers in the Talif LAB (one of the four) have been replaced with
nComputing Terminals. The nComputing technology leverages on the Terminal Server
technology which enables multiple users to to use services and applications
provisioned by a single desktop situated on the network. This has greatly
reduced administrative and maintenance overheads compared to the orthodox
desktops.
This technology is also deployed in the Library and the Teaching Assistants’
Lounge.
The Ashesi’s messaging and collaboration platform is based on Microsoft Windows
Server 2008 platform with Exchange Server 2007 and SharePoint Server 2007 at the
backend. The clients use Outlook 2007.
An Online Student’s Information System aids in the management of students’
records from admissions through registration, student assessment and class work
to graduation. In continuing with the relationship with alumni, there is a
collaborative portal that provides alumni with information from campus and
career opportunities.
